“Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." (Mark 10:15)
In my last blog we saw that God restricts entrance into heaven to all men who do not posses saving faith, and this He does because of the extent of His law. God is not a man that He should overlook the smallest sin, as if there were such a thing as a small sin. All sin is great because it is done in direct opposition to the One who is the eternal life and apart from whom there can be no existence.
It is so difficult for a sinful man to hear the truth about his own sinfulness because the wickedness of our heart cries out with pride and opposition to even a hint that we might be wicked enough to deserve eternal punishment. However, the Bible makes it perfectly clear that men are just that wicked before the one true and holy God.
The Bible is perfectly clear that all men have sinned, as in (Romans 3:23), “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But why are all men worthy to go into eternal punishment? After first considering the infinite holiness of God and His standards of morality, it all boils down to the relationship that man broke with God through a misplaced trust.
God placed man in the Garden of Eden, there to be tested by the devil who tempted him with a lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the sinful pride of life. In the same way he tested Jesus in the wilderness who had a vastly different response. Man, however, chose to believe the devil’s lies over God’s truth, and the devil’s destructive hate over God’s love
The remedy for man’s predicament according to the Bible, and Jesus words in (Mark 10:15) the faith of a little child. Jesus was emphatic in His pronouncement of this truth by saying, “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." Faith is the key that unlocks the door to eternal life, which is completely fitting since it was mistrust that barred the way. Believe, receive, and be saved!
