THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” John 14:25

What is in a name? According to Shakespeare, a rose by any other name will smell as sweet.

However, I must respectfully disagree. Names are the description, by which we are informed to the identity of another. Every person has a multitude of names, such as son, doctor, conscientious, etc. Therefore, names are a tool that helps us to understand the nature, personality, and relationships that others possess.

The Apostle John gave Jesus His proper name throughout his Gospel. The personal name of God is Jehovah. (The translation you use may be spelled differently) The name Jehovah is I AM THAT I AM or I AM in Exodus 3; it is there that God declared His name to Moses. He said to God, the children of Israel may inquire what His name is?

Throughout the Old Testament, the name I AM is part of a compound name. In John 14:25 the name is I AM the resurrection and the life, or it could be divided into two names I AM the resurrection, and I AM the life. I do not know any two names that could be more important to the human race.

As the creator, God is the source of life to all of us. As the Savior of sinners God is the resurrection from the dead; “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a) As the giver of free grace, God is the giver of life; “…but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b)

Do you recognize yourself as a sinner, as are we all? Do you know the names of God? More importantly, do you know the God behind the names?

This book is meant to be a helpful way to understand Jesus Christ. Walk with Him on the way to Jerusalem. Get to know how He treated the men He shared himself with for three years. Witness the multitudes and how they responded to his earthly ministry. See how the drama unfolds as Jesus was brought to trial.
