“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
Believers in Jesus Christ are set apart for a holy purpose by the ministry of the word, however, this does not include the word taught by false prophets. I do not believe I have ever been in a church where the people boast about their preacher twisting the bible for his own benefits, and yet that is what Jesus said false teachers do.
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Matthew 7:15 Can you imagine a shepherd that devoured his own sheep, yet false shepherds do just that by the deceitful way they use the bible.
The person who wants to be useful to God must discern and avoid false teaching and doctrine.
“If a man therefore purge himself from these (false doctrine), he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and fit for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” 2Timothy 2:21 (emphasis added)
