THE LORD IS THEIR INHERITANCE

“The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the Lord’s offerings by fire and His portion. They shall have no inheritance among their countrymen; theLord is their inheritance, as He promised them.” Deuteronomy 18:1, 2

Of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel, one was set apart to the Lord and were to have no inheritance in the land, but the Lord was to be their inheritance. In the plan of God, He has chosen a people for Himself, but they are not to be a people for show, or merely by outward appearance only, but from the heart.

When Peter wrote to those Christians scattered throughout the land and at a time of growing persecution he said, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9

A priest is a man whose life has been dedicated to serving God. His desire is to know God, worship and obey the One and only God that gave Him life, and who expects from Him undivided attention, love, obedience, and reverence. Such is not the state of our present world.

There i

s a time, however, as prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah when all people upon the earth will know the Lord and serve Him with undivided attention. “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” (Jeremiah 31:34)

A saving knowledge of Jesus Christ begins with the forgiveness of sins through repentance (a turning away from those sins), and faith in Him alone. Such a knowledge of God directly correlates to a saving knowledge of God, and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. “And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

I hope and pray that all my readers know Jesus in such a saving way, and that He, and He alone is their portion.
