“But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; 18To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.” Psalm 103:17-18
Those who fear the Lord view themselves as impoverished sinners worthy of His wrath; therefore, the exhortation of the Apostle Paul to live humbly and harmoniously in the world makes perfect sense. The working out of obedient humility before the Everlasting God appears as follows:
Do not think better of yourself than you should!
Do not approach life in a careless manner but responsibly toward all!
Use your gift to the building up of a local church body of Christ!
Do not love with hypocrisy!
Be sincere in everything you do, without trying to look good for others, deceiving yourself!
Learn to discern and hate evil and at the same time love and cling to what is good!
Learn to be affectionate to the brethren, and sincerely want them to do better than yourself!
Do not be idle but serve the Lord with zeal and passion!
When difficulties arise, rejoice, and persevere knowing that Christ is our hope!
Let prayer be the spiritual air you breathe!
Take what you have been given from God and give it to others, cheerfully!
Place a sincere blessing upon all those who curse and mistreat you!
Be sincere with all men so that you rejoice with the joyful and cry with the sorrowful!
Learn to be in agreement with God, so you can be in agreement with others who are also!
Do not be a stuffed shirt like men who want to associate with those of great worldly stature!
Associate with those of lower worldly stature than you!
Do not think that wisdom begins and ends with you!
Do not take revenge on anyone!
Look out for the welfare of others and offer them things of eternal value!
Outside of the church, live in peace with all men, and if they insist on doing you harm, do not take revenge on them, but live by faith in God, as did our Lord!
The previous commands are taken from Romans 12 and paraphrased.
Christians should seek the ministry of faithful gospel preaching, and fellowship with believers of like mind, where they can fulfill the Lord’s will in the power of a faithful church!
