“Where is your faith?” He asked. Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!” (Luke 8:25)
When Jesus’s disciples were in the midst of a storm so fearsome that even seasoned fishermen became fearful, He rebuked the wind and the raging water so that they became calm. The most important point of the passage is connected to the question that He asked them just prior to quieting the storm, which was “Where is your faith?”
The week before last I made a phone call that I had postponed for a few months for fear of rejection. When I eventually called, I was met with a gracious warmth and kindness that broke my heart and made me realize just how faithless I had been.
I became so convicted of my lack of faith that resulted from my fear, that I called my son for some correction and comfort. He gave me both. “I am faced with fear with every business decision I make”, he said, “but I don’t allow it to hinder me, instead I replace it with faith.” “faith”, he said, “is similar to fear in that they both believe in something they cannot see.”
A fear of man or circumstances cannot create the peace, joy, and contentment that faith in God can. Therefore, whenever we feel the grip of fear coming on, we should redirect our fear to a faith in the love of God. After all God proved His love for us 2, 000 years ago when He sacrificed His beloved Son for us. That is those of us that have placed our faith in His Son.
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)
