A Time for Miracles part 4

“Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”  Matthew 1:13

Divine protection for the baby Jesus was one of the miracles of Christmas.  It is true that nothing happens that God does not cause or allow, and the Christian is called to live by faith in that reality.

Godly men should never fear what men or governments can do but, trust God who is working out His perfect plan in His time.  For this reason, Paul, when writing to Timothy said, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”  1Timothy 2:1,2

The opposite of living a quiet and peaceable life is to raise up arms or voices against the government, which is a form of rebellion.  I realize this is a concept foreign to Americans because it is written into our constitution to descent, however, the Bible says something quite different.  “It is my wish, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument.”  1 Timothy 2:8

Let us remember at this Christmas time, we are living for the king born in a manger, and upon His shoulders the government shall rest because He is the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, to whom be honor and glory, forever and ever. Amen.
