It is a great irony that men desire to know the rich and famous and not the living God, creator of all things, who alone imparts eternal life to those who know Him. “This is eternal life, that they might know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ who you have sent” (John 17:3).
One of the great deterrents to knowing Jesus is the lie that knowing God in Christ is merely intellectual assent and not a relationship with a living person. If you doubt this is true, tell someone that you know God. Watch the look that you get. There is no greater loss for the believer than to fall into the trap of empty prayer, going through the motion without any intimacy.
The richest relationship that any person can ever have is to talk to the living God, and have Him talk back through His living Word, the Bible. “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
David understood the value of a relationship with God, that revealed itself through meaningful, heart felt, and verbal prayer. “I cry aloud with my voice to the LORD …I cried out to You, O LORD; I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Psalm 142:1.
To miss out on a relationship with God is to miss out on the best that life has to give. Talk about a missed opportunity. Wow!
