My dear readers, a 747 is a big plane and Luke 7:47 is a big verse. When Jesus accepted the invitation to the home of a Pharisee, He did not receive common courtesy from him. Upon seeing a woman give the courtesy that he should have supplied, he said to himself. “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.”
In response to the Pharisee, having read his mind, Jesus answered him. “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. “When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” The Pharisee answered well by saying, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” Jesus then reproved the Pharisee for the lack of love that he showed Him who was the fulfillment of all Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming Messiah and Savior.
At the same time, a woman who did not know the law as the Pharisee should have wash Jesus’ feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. At this point, Jesus states one of the most defining verses about the connection between God’s forgiveness and man’s love. “For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
My dear readers, don’t miss the main point of Jesus’s teaching. The source of divine love, as it is produced in a man is the forgiveness the man appreciates. Those men who feel no need for God’s forgiveness do not love God.
Remember this! “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30) Good luck trying to love God that way as a lost sinner. Oh, never mind, God does not acknowledge luck.
